Ascending into the Hill of the Lord: My Expound Symposium Paper
The following is my presentation, entitled “Ascending into the Hill of the Lord: The Psalms as a Key to Understanding the Rituals of the First Temple” from the Expound Symposium. Please note that this is a draft — it is in the format in which I presented it at the symposium — it has not [...]

Psalm 24: Temple Gates and Guardians
I have written a new post over at The Millennial Star looking at Psalm 24 and the possibility that it describes an ancient temple ritual in which pilgrims to the temple engaged in a question-and-answer dialogue with priests that acted as gatekeepers at the temple gates. If interested, please check out the post at: http://www.millennialstar.org/psalm-24-temple-gates-and-guardians/

“Beside Me There is No Saviour”: Old Testament Lesson 38
Isaiah 40-49 Sorry for the dearth of posts recently — the semester at St Andrews has now started up and I have found myself overwhelmed trying to set a new schedule and routine for myself. Among the various things I’m doing this semester, I am very excited about sitting in on Jim Davila’s Book of [...]

Thou Hast Done Wonderful Things: Further Thoughts on OT Lesson 37
This post is a continuation of the last one — just sharing some further thoughts Sunday School Lesson 37. Isaiah Chapter 25 This chapter begins like many of the psalms, praising the Lord for the great salvific deeds he has performed for the redemption of the house of Israel. Isaiah 25:1 O LORD, thou art [...]

Sinai Relived: Ritual Retelling of the Sinai Story in the Psalms
(Old Testament Lesson 14 — Exodus 15-20; 32-34) I would like to share some musings on a source for studying the Sinai story that many might not think of — the Psalms. There will be some overlap here with my previous post on the Exodus story, so if you read that one, please bear with [...]

Melchizedek: King, Priest, and God and the Forbidden Degrees
The title of this post is actually somewhat deceptive as it implies that the post is going to be about Melchizedek, who can be considered a king, a priest, and also a god, and about the “Forbidden Degrees” (sounds tantalizing, eh?), which the title seems to suggest have some connection to Melchizedek. Well, as far [...]

The Incomparable Power of God’s Salvation: Musings on Psalm 18
I wanted to share some comments on Psalm 18. I have been studying the psalms lately and have been especially impressed by their rich theological content. I have been most specifically looking at the so-called “Royal Psalms”, which scholars have designated as such because of their association with Israelite kingship. Psalm 18 is one of [...]
