Psalm 24: Temple Gates and Guardians

I have written a new post over at The Millennial Star looking at Psalm 24 and the possibility that it describes an ancient temple ritual in which pilgrims to the temple engaged in a question-and-answer dialogue with priests that acted as gatekeepers at the temple gates. If interested, please check out the post at: http://www.millennialstar.org/psalm-24-temple-gates-and-guardians/

On Divine Humanity

I found the following a while back and just recently looked at it again and thought it would be great to post here. British scholar Crispin Fletcher-Louis, in his book All the Glory of Adam, had the following to say about the early Jewish belief that all of humanity was meant to, and and eventually could, [...]

The Temple Studies Group Symposium IV: Laurence Hemming

“Adam in the Liturgy” — The Rev. Dr Laurence Hemming We cannot understand texts by simply reading them –Mainstream Christianity is being converted into an ethical humanism–we are moving away from doctrines like the resurrection. The liturgy is being converted into an opportunity for celebration of ethical humanism–this is nothing short of a blasphemy. Souls need [...]

The Temple Studies Group Symposium IV: Margaret Barker

Adam the High Priest in the Paradise Temple — Margaret Barker Adam and Eden are the beginning and the end of the Bible. An overly literal reading of the text can obscure profound insights. The Return to Eden was an important part of Christian teaching. See Cyril of Jerusalem, First Lecture on the Mysteries, 1. [...]

Melchizedek: King, Priest, and God and the Forbidden Degrees

Well, as far [...]

Oldest Known Bible Goes Online LONDON, England (CNN) — The world’s oldest known Christian Bible goes online Monday — but the 1,600-year-old text doesn’t match the one you’ll find in churches today. The Codex also includes much of the Old Testament adopted by early Greek-speaking Christians. Discovered in a monastery in the Sinai desert in [...]

The Priestly Suppression of Ancient Truths

King Josiah’s Reforms Before moving on to more evidence of the suppression of ancient truths, this time at the hands of postexilic priestly editors, I want to mention a couple more good commentaries on the Deuteronomistic reforms, mentioned in my last post. First, I remembered another great article–a book review–by Kevin Christensen, featured in [...]
